余華的《第七天》是一本既現實又荒誕的長篇小說，講述了主人公楊飛死後七天的所見所聞。

在這篇小說裡，人去世後仍然有意識，活在一片虛幻的世界裡，直到火化後安息。有墓地的人將去殯儀館安息在「安息之地」，而沒有墓地的人只能前往「死無葬身之地」。主人公楊飛是沒有墓地的人，他不能進行火化。在他死後第七天裡，他遇見了不少熟人，他的前妻、以前的鄰居、他的父親等等。直到第七天，他在「死無葬身之地」裡繼續以沒有靈魂的方式活下去。

這本書的本身是荒誕的，但卻又實實在在地讓人覺得真實，因為裡面的情節不斷諷刺著現今社會的道德殘缺。

政府對於人民不斷隱瞞，甚至欺騙，只為為自己營造一個好印象。他們不經百姓的同意強拆百姓的房屋，甚至因而壓死兩位夫婦。而新聞報導裡卻說那都是百姓的謠言，還不斷讚美現今政府的管理制度。還有某個商場發生火災，政府事後謊報逝世人數，因為不想將此事鬧大。

貧富懸殊亦帶來了極大的反差以及不公。墓地一平方米三萬，有錢人的墓地都是一畝兩畝，骨灰盒都是上千上萬。而窮人的墓地只有一平方米，他們卻仍然感歎著墓地的昂貴，甚至歎息「死都死不起」。某個有錢人甚至將墓地設立在天安門廣場上的英雄紀念碑上，並利用金錢賄賂政府，用權利鎮壓記者。而窮人為自己的女友買個墓地都不得不去賣腎換取金錢。 閱讀全文〈第七天〉

Have you ever felt frustrated when facing some insurmountable tasks, like finishing a big project in a week or making a speech without enough practice time? No wonder the above-mentioned problems are difficult to tackle. But it is also a hard fact that we need to live with difficulties, no matter what. If you don’t want to sit there and do nothing like a bunch of pampered kids, here is a story that might inspire you.

The book “Chinese Cinderella” caught my eye when I came across it randomly in the school library. The picture of the girl in the corner was nothing more to be compared with the beautiful and amicable in my mind. So I read a few pages out of curiosity. After that I was totally engrossed in this book. It is a biography about a girl, Adeline Yen Mak who was persevering throughout her terrible childhood. Though she had been a clever and courteous girl since she was a child, she was considered unlucky as her mother died when giving birth to her. As a result, her family didn’t treat her well, she needed to face loneliness and isolation. Reading up to this you may think that her life was full of pain. Obviously there was no friendly fairy coming out and lending her a hand to overcome the obstacles, just like what they did to the original “Cinderella”, and maybe she should give up her life. 5A Chan Yan Ho, Thomas

The title of this book is very interesting because it gives me the impression of a fairy tale. You can’t see any moral that this book actually teaches us just by looking at the cover. If you finish reading the book you will find that it provokes you to think a lot.

Characters:

Girl: She is an eight year old girl who has a magic finger which can put spells on others. She is a naughty but also a girl full of sympathy. She will only punish people who do bad things.

Philip Gregg and William Gregg: They are eight and eleven year old boys and they are the sons of Mr and Mrs Gregg and also the friend of Girl. They like hunting with their family.

Mr and Mrs Gregg: They are the parents of Philip Gregg and William Gregg. Mr Gregg likes to take their kids hunting. They are good parents because they take care of their children well. 閱讀全文〈The Magic Finger〉

Summary:

Jane Eyre is an orphan who lodges in her aunt’s home from an early age. She is always being bullied. Then, her aunt lets her go to a boarding school. After graduation, she becomes a tutor of a girl, Adele. Then, she and her employer Rochester fall in love with each other. They decide to get married. However, on the wedding day, Jane finds out that Rochester has a wife, so she leaves him. After that, she meets St John, and receives a large amount of legacy from him. He is her cousin. On their wedding day, Jane hears the roar of Rochester. She rescues Rochester from a big fire, then they live together.

Theme:

This book underlines two premises. First, the value of humans is dignity and love. Second, the equality between men and women. Jane Eyre is a book written in the old days. It is a feminist novel. It emphasizes that females need to be on their own, be independent, and ambitious. That is why at last, the writer makes Rochester a crippled and blind man. He can only rely on Jane. This explains that women are not men’s belongings. Also, the departure of Jane from Rochester symbolizes independence and her return symbolizes love. 閱讀全文〈Jane Eyre〉

3A Leung Ho Suet, Cher

The Fault in Our Stars is a love story written by John Green, published in 2012. It was TIME Magazine’s No. 1 Fiction Book of 2012, and it also won the 2013 Children’s Choice Teen Book of the Year award. It was so famous that I, who never read tragedy, bought this book because of the word of mouth that The Fault in Our Stars created.

This is a story of a 16 year-old girl named Hazel who has lungs cancer and a 17 year-old boy named Augustus who has osteosarcoma named Augustus. They meet each other in a Support Group, share their lives and fall in love with each other.

I read this book once last year, and the only thing I felt after reading it was sadness. But after I read it again a few weeks ago, I started to understand more through the story and not just feel sad.
